First Steps 2 Work Renfrewshire – Maggie

Updated: 14/08/2024

Maggie has been engaging with Barnardo’s First Steps 2 Work programme since the end of August, this is a sector specific, employability support programme which aims to help parents take their next steps back into the workplace.  It gives parents the opportunity to gain additional knowledge for that sector, build confidence levels and gain relevant qualifications for that sector.

“The support I received from the team was incredible, they are very good listeners and understand the challenges parents face while trying to get back into work.”

When Maggie started the programme, she was looking to get back into work since having her children and was struggling to find job opportunities that could work around her family commitments.

Maggie fully engaged in the programme and gave her all. She grew in confidence while on the course, gained her Teaching Assistant Diploma and Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.

“The course with Barnardo’s Works opened more job opportunities for me and helped me understand interviews with employers and what they could ask me, so when I went for my 1st interview I was well prepared and got the job!”

Maggie’s Project Worker: “ It was great to watch Maggie grow in confidence while on the programme, she took advantage of all the opportunities offered to her, such as; interview preparation and help with job applications. Thanks to her attitude and everything she learned, Maggie confidently went to interviews fully prepared and was successful in gaining employment as a classroom assistant. We are very proud of her”
