Level 2 Functional Skills English

At Barnardo’s we aspire to inspire learners with the Functional Skills qualification, as this prepares young people for their future. The course will enable learners to contribute further to scenarios at work, as it will prepare them to understand and participate in discussions, interpret pieces of writing and instructions, as well as helping them to put their point across clearly.

Course Summary

Available in the core subjects of English and Maths, these courses can help develop your understanding in a number of areas. They are also the perfect qualification for you if you didn’t achieve the GCSEs you wanted when you were younger, but now wish to develop essential life skills.

As GCSE grade equivalents, Functional Skills can benefit you professionally as well as personally. Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications are respected by employers and can help boost your employability. They can even set the foundation for further study too.

  • Opens door for level 3 courses in:
  • Sports level 2/3
  • Business level 2/3
  • Health and social care level 2/3
  • Childcare level 2/3

For Level 2 qualification:

  • 1 reading paper- 60 minutes
  • 1 writing paper- 80 minutes
  • Speaking and listening presentation- 5 minutes
  • Discussion on an unfamiliar topic- 6/7 minutes
  • Discuss another person’s presentation- 5 minutes
