Introduction and Overview

Barnardo’s Works Tayside operates across Dundee, Angus, and Perth & Kinross. We assist young people aged 15-29 to overcome any barriers which are preventing them from achieving their goals.  We deliver employability training and support their progression into jobs, apprenticeships, further education and training.  We also deliver a Parental Employment Support Programme in Dundee, working with parents aged 16-25 who are unemployed or underemployed and needing support to access opportunities and improve household income.  At Barnardo’s Works, we believe that it is important to build a trusted relationship with each young person we support; discuss our programmes to ensure the support we offer is tailored to your needs; along with the personal and employability goals you are focussed on.

Our Offer:

-Young people will be supported by a Project Worker throughout their journey.

-We deliver a suite of programmes/activities that include SQA and sector-specific qualifications.

-Young people will have access to local volunteering, work experience and employer engagement activities.

-Young people will be able to join our service at the stage that is appropriate for them.

-Promoting positive health and wellbeing will be integrated within all programme stages.

-We aim to build young persons’ confidence, skills, and resilience to effectively transition between and across different stages of the employability pipeline. We also aim to support moving young people towards their employment goals.

Programmes

Barnardo’s Works Tayside uses a person-centred, trauma-informed, and tailored approach to supporting young people on their journey into employment.

All In Dundee – Young Persons Employment Support

Supports young people aged 15-24 to develop their communication skills, confidence and employability skills in preparation for employment and further education; with support and opportunities created in areas such as work experience placements, SQA employability and industry qualifications, CV workshops, job search and interview skills training; whilst providing 1-2-1 support and guidance to young people on their journey towards employment.

All In Dundee – Dundee Employability Pathway

Supports young people 16-29 with mental health and physical health barriers/issues to enhance their employability and wellbeing to be ready to progress into a positive destination.

All In Dundee – Parental Employment Support

Supports parents 16-35, unemployed and underemployed parents to enhance their skills and secure opportunities or progress within the workplace.  An Upskill Training Fund is available to support eligible parents to undertake training and qualifications to improve their employment and career prospects.

Head To Work

Utilities a “youth work” approach to engaging 14–21-year-olds who are living in employment deprived areas, unemployed and at risk of offending/re-offending; focusing on topics such as mental health and wellbeing, personal finance/budgeting, building confidence and team working, plus also supporting young people to achieve qualifications and to undertake volunteering.  Previous participants have engaged in group activities such as creative art, dance, filming and sport.

Discovering Your Potential (DYP)

Supports care experienced young people for up to a year to build their resilience and confidence, progress towards and sustain further education, jobs, or apprenticeships.

Explore & B’Leave (E&B)

Focuses on supporting young people aged 15-18 to make the transition from school to post-school activity, working on areas such as confidence and communication skills, and vocational activity like CV building, career mapping, exploring career options and setting goals.

SACO – Scottish Academy for Construction Opportunities

Funded by Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), SACO supports young people 16-29 to prepare for and access job opportunities within the construction sector.  Support includes funding to obtain a CSCS card and other accredited training, work experience placements to allow young people to gain real life experience in the construction sector and make employer connections, and support to apply for job and MA opportunities.  Once in post, in-work support is provided for 6 months.

Multiply Programme – “Calculate Your Career” – Dundee

This programme is being delivered to support young adults, aged 19-29, to improve their confidence with maths at work and in their personal life.  This is achieved through the deliver of creative programmes covering a range of learning opportunities in gardening, construction, hospitality and enterprise projects.  We will be working with young parents in 2024, plus also delivering a Construction Springboard Course. Funded through UKSPF.
